A DATE for next year's Tockwith district agricultural and horticultural show has been announced by organisers.

The annual fundraising show, which was cancelled this year due to bad weather, will be held on August 2 to help raise money for a number of charities, including Farmers In Crisis, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Macmillan Nurses.

The horticultural show was originally started in 1945 to help raise funds for the Red Cross, but a few years later incorporated agriculture into its set up and a few more charities.

However, last year proved disastrous for the charity which had to cancel its show due following severe rainfall and gales. It lost an estimated £8,000 which would have been donated to its chosen charities.

"It would have cost us a lot more if not for the generous support of members, sponsors, exhibitors and trade stands who donated their fees to cushion the loss," said secretary Norman Waller.

"Hopefully we can make up for last year with next year's show."

More information on the event can be found on the show's website www.tockwithshow.org.uk or by phoning Mr Waller on 01423 358588.
