KATIE Scales is continuing her recovery from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident - and looking forward to eating properly again in the New Year.

The 11-year-old Haxby schoolgirl will undergo another operation on her injured jaw next month, after which she hopes she will be able to chew again.

Her mother, Sarah, said she had been frustrated over the Christmas holidays by only being able to eat mashed up food.

She and her brother, Joseph, also suffered a sickness bug earlier this week, but were now recovering.

"Christmas wasn't too bad at all, when you think what could have been. It was lovely to have her home," she said.

Katie was injured when she was struck by a black Fiat Punto at the pelican crossing in Blossom Street earlier this month.

The Punto driver made off without stopping and is still being hunted by police.
