A surprisingly one-sided final took place in York and District Indoor Bowls Club's Glen Garage Christmas Mixed Pairs final.
Peter Littlewood and Ann Sharpley were in full control as they won the first two ends and kept the lead throughout their game against Melanie and Graham Brooke winning 19-12.
There were also one-sided games in the Hospice two-wood pairs competition.
In the men's final, Frank Turner and Eddie Howcroft beat Peter Littlewood and John Emmerson 3-0 (7-4, 7-1 and 8-4) to win the trophy for the first time.
Norma Reed and Sheila Turpin also won the ladies trophy for the first time, 3-0 (7-4, 7-4 and 7-5) against Margaret Smith and Ann Sharpley.
However there was a closer game in the mixed pairs final, played over three sets.
Graham and Carol Instone took the first set 7-4 and were leading 4-3 in the second before Phil Parsons and Maureen Walker came in with a maximum four to draw level on sets at 1-1.
The Instones drew first blood in the deciding set to lead 2-0, but Parsons and Walker weren't to be outdone as they won five successive ends to win 8-2 and take the title for the first time.
In the Tom Forbes vets pairs final, Dudley Williams and Ken Patterson scored a four on the second end followed by a two to lead 6-1 against Frank Turner and Noel Mallen who was substituting for Eddie Howcroft. But the latter duo came back to win the next three ends to lead 7-6.
The game tightened at 11-11 after 12 ends but then Turner and Mallen won five of the next seven to lead 20-14 with two ends to play.
Williams and Patterson were given a chance as they scored a three to trail by three going into the last end, but they dropped a two and lost the game 22-17.
York and District IBC have been informed that their Denny Cup quarter-final game against Kingsthorpe from Northampton will be played at Alfreton Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday, January 25, 2003, starting at 12.30pm.
