Sixties singing star Helen Shapiro is to visit York to take part in a church gospel evening.

Helen, who shot to fame at the age of 14 with her hits Walking Back To Happiness, Don't Treat Me Like A Child, and You Don't Know Me, will appear at York Baptist Church in March.

Helen moved on to star in pantomime, cabaret and films, and also found fame as a jazz singer, performing with Humphrey Lyttelton and the BBC Big Band.

In York she will alternate talking about her faith with songs of worship and the songs that made her famous. The event will take place at the church, in Priory Street, at 7.30pm on Friday, March 7. Phone Richard May on 630254 or Joyce Wea on 635382 for ticket details.
