POLICE have revealed that they will not be launching a full investigation into York antiques dealer Anthony Gilberthorpe.

Following preliminary inquiries, Detective Constable Clive Rich, of North Yorkshire Police, said the force would not be conducting further investigations into either Mr Gilberthorpe or Stonegate Antiques Centre. Officers had been inquiring into the affairs of the business after being contacted by concerned dealers who dealt with the centre.

Mr Gilberthorpe had run Stonegate Antiques Centre for six-and-a-half years, but a new antiques business is currently operating from the site.

David Waggott has opened The Antiques Centre York after taking possession of the premises following an alleged debt.

DC Rich said: "We are obviously aware of the various concerns expressed about Stonegate Antiques Centre. But, following preliminary inquiries, there will be no further investigation."
