ANOTHER year over, during which Ann and I visited 45 snack spots on your behalf. Some were first time visits, others for a return trip.

Apart from passing our landmark 250th survey at Penny's, a number of other enjoyable experiences come to mind.

There were two spots in Malton that appealed. Leoni's, where the bric-a-brac was as fascinating as the menu, and Crumbs, where quality and value were paramount.

On our way to the Dales, we were pleased with our midday repast in Panetti's in Bedale and have subsequently heard from readers that they too enjoyed this venue.

Still finding uncharted places in York, we were surprised that the Teddy Bear Tearoom in Stonegate had escaped our attention for so long. As a genuine snack spot as opposed to a meal venue, this is the place.

While focusing on snackeries, Micklegate's Georgian Caf is worth a visit.

Despite not being enthusiastic gardeners, Ann has a liking for The Bothy at Deans Garden Centre. In particular, she says, the venue excels in its cakes and puddings.

For a sunny afternoon (yes, we did have some) our trip to the Farmer's Cart at Towthorpe remains a pleasant memory.

Our granddaughters might be offended if we did not include Caf Classical in Goodramgate. Their verdict was 'not bad' which for teenagers means ...?

And finally, for sheer value we thought the £8 for two menu at Casa in Bridge Street, York, was unbeatable. This bargain is no longer on offer but we hope that it is reintroduced soon.

We are often asked which places we would avoid in future...

Sorry, but our lips are sealed!
