A LACK of concentration from New Earswick All Blacks in the first ten minutes of the second half cost them a place in the second round of the National Cup.

The All Blacks looked good value for their 12-0 half-time lead but they were hit by a fired-up Ellenborough Rangers in the second half and the Cumbrians went on to win 26-12.

Nigel Tyreman opened the scoring for the York team with a try on 12 minutes following a neat kick through by Mick Harrison. Ian Calpin converted.

The rest of the half saw All Blacks in control as they easily contained the big Ellenborough forwards.

After concerted pressure, an excellent pass from John Leach to Dan Wellard close to the line saw the All Blacks extend their lead.

Calpin converted again to make the scores to 12-0 after 38 minutes.

Ellenborough came out in the second half a different team, using the ball wide to attack on the firmer ground.

And within the space of ten minutes, they had turned the game on its head with three quick tries.

As the All Blacks struggled to get back into the game, Ellenborough scored two more tries.

New Earswick's man of the match was Dan Wellard followed closely by Tom Coomber and John Leach, while Lee Nelson was a constant threat with the ball in his hands.

Daryl Davison led his New Earswick All Blacks Under-12s team to a 50-6 victory over Headingley Hawks.

Under the watchful eye of York City Knights skipper Richie Hayes, the young All Blacks - who in turn saw Hayes in historic action for the Knights on Sunday - avenged a 28-22 defeat in September by scoring ten tries to one in reply.

Top tackler Joe Lancaster notched four tries, with others coming from Brad Swainston (2), Luke Watling, Adam Caddie, Jonny Nendick and Davison.

Nick Speck was man of the match, with their most improved player being Mark Hayes, son of Richie.

Heworth Under-14s showed little of rustiness as they bounced back from an enforced break of several weeks to hammer Oulton Raiders 52-0.

Jamie Pallister, Imi Lewis (2) and Chris Peace (3) all scored tries to give Heworth a 32-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Pallister, Peace and Potter all add tries to the tally.

Potter slotted over three coversions, with Peace adding three goals.

Chris Winskill had a fine game with some rugged dfefence and strong drives, while Gareth Watson was inspirational at scrum-half.

York Acorn U13s proved far too strong for Milford when winning 73-14.

Stand-off David Leeke crossed for six tries and full-back Adam Jones also scored four, with prop Danny Birkitt notching a brace to celebrate his birthday and loose-forward Adam Craven also getting two.

Ross Varley was successful with eight of 14 conversion attempts and also kicked a drop goal early on.

Tom and Oliver Harrison, Dave Leeke, Adam Jones, Paul Cross and Dominic Nelson were outstanding in defence to set the platform for victory with Leeke being named man of the match, followed by Jones.
