CLIFTON played well towin 7-2 at home to Rowntree in ladies division one of York Badminton League.

Shelagh Barker and Karen Broster were top scorers for the St Peter's School-based club with three straight wins for 90-20.

University Student Ladies scored home wins over Drax (6-3) and Rowntree (8-1).

Nicky Roe and Heather Turner were in great form, taking six from six for a two-match total of 182-64. Julie Smyth and Sue Matchett won twice for Drax but lost 17-14 15-7 to Roe and Turner.

Market Weighton snatched a last-gasp 5-4 home win over St John's in ladies division two despite Lindsey Spicer and Lucy Smith totalling 92-40 for the student teachers.

Sue Durston and Sue Smith took the final rubber after an 8 and 6 victory over Genna Pledenstein and Jenni Pollington to earn Market Weighton victory.

Students 'A' kept up their challenge for men's division one top spot after whitewashing Shepherds with Russell Binns and James Croll leading the way with a 90-11 return.

Paul Blackett and Mike Melson amassed 90-34 in their favour as IT Sports won 9-0 at Selby Jubilee. Neil Richardson and Franny Millivojevic twice lost 15-13 in this final end and failed to record a Jubilee consolation.

Rowntree won 5-4 at Knavesmire in men's division two. Phil Grant and Mark Barker scored three victories for 101-49, including an 11-15 15-8 15-12 success over Andy Limbert and Alastair Jewison.

Tadcaster kept up their good run in men's division three and remained unbeaten after a 6-3 away win over Sheriff Hutton.

Andrew Daffern and Guy Brewer earned Sheriff's three wins for a total of 99-59, but B Marley and A Cooper took the win bonus points with a 1 and 8 win over C Webb and B Wilford.

Drax 'B' went to Easingwold with only two pairings and still managed to win 5-4. The mixed division two clash saw Mark Harris and Sharon Ross make the difference with three straight wins for 90-40.

Huntington 'B' edged to the top of Mixed Four after a 6-3 win over Fulfordgate 'A'. John Deighton and Margaret Chambers were the pick of the home pairs with three wins for 90-32. They were well backed up by Lisa Turner and Ian MacAuley who returned 90-53.

RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' played well to return an 8-1 win over York University Staff Club 'B'.

Three-times winners Dave Thomson and Penny Sheard headed Institute's averages with three wins for 92-36. Gary Turner and Sue Scott took the staff club consolation with a 17-15 15-8 win over Kelly Lynch and Phil Hagues.

Terry's beat Middlethorpe 5-4 as five rubbers went to a third end. Judy Wilson and Ian Forman proved the matchwinners with 95-56, including the seventh when they beat Geoff Deighton and Georgina MacKenzie 15-6 5-15 15-8.
