LET'S get the unusual title out of the way first. It refers to hitting, for the first time, 100mph in the Hudson Terraplane, an American V8 car much loved by gangsters such as Public Enemy No 1 John Dillinger.
It sounds as if Peter, who suffered so long with mental illnesss during and after his time with Fleetwood Mac, is finally out of the woods. Peter is famous for saying: "I took my chances with the blues, because I couldn't see anything else around with any sort of soul in it..." This album has bags of smoky/sad/sensational soul. Heart and soul. Peter's lead guitar, harmonica and vocals are beautifully balanced by Larry Tolfree (drums), Roger Cotton (keyboards), Pete Stroud (bass) and Nigel Watson (sharing lead guitar and vocals). Nothing Gonna Change, Dangerous Man and Don't Walk Away put the Splinter Group back in the mainstream of soul/rock.
