the University of York has a double helping of Handel over the coming week.

On Saturday, March 1 in Central Hall, the University Choir links up with the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists for the 7.30pm performance of Handel's Coronation Anthems, written for the coronation of George II in 1727 with Zadok The Priest at its core.

The orchestra also takes centre stage to play concerti grossi and an organ concerto under the baton of Peter Seymour.

And on Wednesday (5th) at 8pm, the University Chamber Choir sings Handel's oratorio Israel In Egypt, which recounts the tribulations of the Israelites and their deliverance to the Promised Land with a graphic portrayal of plagues, including jumping frogs, buzzing flies, hail and fire.

That evening, the choir and the University Baroque Ensemble will be conducted by Jonathan Wainwright.

Tickets for tomorrow cost £8 to £16 with concessions available; Wednesday, £11 or £9 with concessions. For both concerts, student tickets are £3 and under 16s are admitted free with an accompanying adult.
