SESSIONS 'A' whitewashed Groves Associates 'A' in division one of Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League.

That opened up a 20-point gap over second-placed Bootham Conservative Club 'A', who have a game in hand.

Strensall 'A' move into third place after their 9-1 win over the bottom team Poppleton 'B', no luck as they went down 10-0 to Groves Associates 'A'.

Coneysthorpe 'A' had a good win over York University 8-2, Charles Allenby winning his three matches. Marcus Seidel won twice for University.

York RI 'B' beat Nestl Rowntree 'A' 7-3. Mark Blackburn won all three for RI, while Jill Schofield won two for Nestl.

York RI 'D' had a good win over Poppleton 'C'. Graham Hood played well for RI but Jo Teale shone as she defeated Chris Armstrong 21-16, 25-23.

The bottom of the division is where all the activity is at the moment. Northern Electric lost 8-2 to BT 'B', whose Howard Broadbent was a three-match winner.

Struggling Groves Associates 'C' went down 10-0 to Nestl Rowntree 'B', but then salvaged points in a 5-5 draw with BT 'A' thanks to three Martin Symons wins.

Bootham Conservative Club 'C' need only 23 points from their remaining matches to win division three.

In their latest match Gareth Bryning was unbeaten as they beat Norwich Union 'A' 8-2.

Coneysthorpe 'B' are second despite losing 5-4 to York RI 'F' 5-4 in a fixture which saw both teams with only two players each.

David Atkinson won all three for Shepherds 'A' in their 7-3 win over York RI 'E'. Clive Warley won all his games as Strensall 'C' beat Shepherds 'B' 6-4.

Groves Associates 'D' have moved back to the top of division four after their 7-3 win over York RI 'J'. Mike Belton played well for Groves to win all three.

Richard Leafe won all three for York RI 'H' in their 5-5 draw with York RI 'G'.
