DUCK Sick have won through to the second round of the Fibbers/Evening Press Battle of the Bands in York, but it took the secret panel's vote to swing the result their way in heat three of round one.
Leeds band Ask My Cat received 47 audience votes, Duck Sick 44, but the secret panel verdict - worth 20 per cent on the night - ensured that Dan Gott's precocious group would live to fight another day. Last year, Duck Sick progressed all the way to the final.
Ask My Cat may yet make round two as a high-scoring runner-up, but Rhesus Monkey and Eyesore were eliminated.
Next Wednesday, 5 Finger Discount, The Hair, The Straitjackets and Habit compete in round one, heat four, at 8pm. Admission is £3.
