CUTTING congestion by improving public transport is at the heart of Liberal Democrat proposals on the best way to use the Local Transport Plan grant for the forthcoming year in York.
The council's opposition group will be pressing for council chiefs to spend some of the record £7.9 million transport budget on tackling overcrowded roads in the city. On congestion charges, Coun Ann Reid, Lib Dem transport spokeswoman, said: "We think more should be done before they are even considered for York and we must be able to offer residents an alternative to using the car by providing an effective and efficient public transport system."
