A MODEL representing the most ancient sporting event in the world has come to one of the most ancient cities in the country seeking "Greeks Abroad".

Diana Zouppas, 31, is searching for Greek ex-patriots living in York who want to donate their time and skills to the marathon project of running the Olympics next year.

Diana is the face of Greek cosmetics company Cavalliert, a successful model and businesswoman, and is held up by organisers of the Olympics as a role model for others to follow.

She said: "They have always used my face to encourage people to volunteer, I work hard, have a good career and my own business, and also donate much of my time to help these causes.

"The organisers want people to realise that if I can do it, anybody can." The event organisers are seeking many different skills, from doctors and accountants to help with the event running, to people giving directions at bus stops and inviting athletes' families into their homes for the duration of the event. Diana said: "We are such a small country, we have only nine-and-a-half million people. We expect many to flock there during the games. It's going to take some doing."

Organisers are seeking 45,000 volunteers and welcome applications from Greek people living in the UK, with anyone owning accommodation in Greece particularly sought after. For more details email greeksabroad@athens2004.com.
