A YORK man had to be rescued by police and firefighters after apparently jumping into the River Ouse.
Police were called after reports that the man, thought to be in his 20s, had leapt into the river at about 11pm yesterday. Sergeant Andy Farrar, of York Police, said: "We got a phone call saying a male had jumped into the river by Scarborough Bridge and they had not seen the man come up.
"Police went down and saw a male holding on to the middle support of the bridge in the water. Fire and rescue were called out and he was pulled out."
The man was taken to York Hospital suffering from exposure and was treated by hospital staff.
