THANK you for the balanced and informative article on the proposed changes to the catchment areas of Joseph Rowntree and Huntington Schools (February 27).
I would just like to correct a possible misunderstanding in the piece.
Joseph Rowntree School doesn't have any spare places. The roll has risen by 200 in the past five years. This has been accommodated by internal conversions and seven extra temporary classrooms. We are very full with 1,350 students.
That said we are more likely to be able to take the children from the joint catchment than Huntington School, which has seen a lot of new house building in its own area. We may, however, require additional classrooms in the short term.
I trust this makes the position clear.
H M Porter,
Headteacher,
Joseph Rowntree School,
Haxby Road,
New Earswick, York.
