New Earswick won the Yorkshire Double Rinks Championship for the second time.

The last eight games were played in two groups of four at Huntington Road, where Scarborough overcame Featherstone on shots difference after drawing with them in their last group game 21-21, having earlier beaten Redcar 34-18 and Saltburn 30-22.

In the other group, New Earswick played Metrodome in their first game with Bob Edwards, Dave Birch, Barry Johnson and Steve Long winning 14-12 and Ken Harrison, Bill Waldie, Mick Stannard and Ralph Tiplady 10-9 victors for a 24-21 aggregate win.

In their second game this time against Thornaby, they ran out 27-23 winners.

Barry Harrison replaced Long with Johnson playing at lead in Edwards' rink in an easy 14-6 win. Brian Gray came in at 'three' in Ken Harrison's team replacing Tiplady. Unfortunately they lost 17-13.

In their last group game, Long came back in for Johnson though they let an 8-5 lead disappear against Selby to lose 10-8.

In Harrison's rink, Tiplady replaced Waldie and they won comfortably 20-11 giving them a final spot .

In the final, Scarborough represented by Taylor, Worsley, Banks and Price had a good start leading 6-1 after four ends, then 7-3 two ends later before the home side won four of the last five ends to take the game 9-8.

In the other rink, Waldie came back in and Stannard stood down for Harrison's team who were playing Scarborough's Dickens, Hodges, Stokes and Corbutt.

The Huntington Road team went 6-0 up after only four ends.

Three ends later the score stood at 8-2 but then Harrison's side had to hold on as the visitors scored five shots to one, but time ran out as New Earswick triumphed 9-7 for an overall aggregate triumph of 18-15.
