HOW many times have we been in King's Square and not seen this snack spot?

Apparently the venue has been open for two years so we admit to being remiss.

The caf, known as Daisy's Yard is at the back of the shop. The menu is limited as befits the accommodation available.

The caf features stone-flags with a canvas awning, so we were grateful for the electric wall heaters. In the summer customers may be over-warm, but we shudder to think what it might be like in the depth of winter.

Ann was tempted to try the hot roast vegetable quiche (£1.95), pondered a cheese or ham omelette (£1.95), a tomato or bacon sandwich or even the Yorkshire rarebit. Finally she settled for a toasted tea-cake, but not before she had finished a mug of hot chocolate topped with cream. So there was one very satisfied customer.

Hearing that there was carrot and coriander soup with a roll (£2.20) I was not disappointed. The soup was full of flavour and remained hot to the last spoonful.

To round off my snack I selected a scone with butter (£1). This was fresh and tasty.

We were intrigued by the teddy bear-themed china. A pattern we had not seen anywhere else in our travels and most attractive.

Although the venue is small there was a steady flow of customers. All were greeted by the sole young assistant who ensured that vacated tables were cleared with alacrity and new customers were given a menu promptly.

Having discovered this spot we couldn't leave without looking round the shop at some unusual gifts and greeting cards.

For efficiency and value we would not hesitate to return, unless it was on an exceptionally cold day!
