Knavesmire Harrier Neil Strange returned to form with fifth place in the Lancaster and Morecambe Trimpell 20.

Strange recorded a time of 1 hour 59 mins and 43 secs, with team-mate Andy Booth clocking 2-13.58.

Kevin Langan was the first Harrier to complete the East Hull 20 in a time of 2-20.29. First Knavesmire woman home was Helen Turton in 2-30.02 and, with Veronica Mackley (2-34.44) and Pat Boden (2-51.41), won the second ladies team prize.

Other Knavesmire times: Bob Caldwell 2-39.06, Simon Birch 2-41.08, Margaret Metcalfe 2-56.03, Patricia Hawkins 2-56.41, Joan Heron 3-18.28, Gillian Gill 3-19.07, Michael Cross 3-20.10, Anne Turner 3-24.51, Graham Turner 3-36.46.

Knavesmire's cross-country season closed at the Yorkshire Veterans' Athletic Association Championships at Hull over a ten-kilometre course at Elloughton Park.

The winner was Longwood Harriers Dave Hinchcliffe 35mins 28 secs, with Strange lead Knavesmire's team in 12th place (38.29) with Barry Atkinson 34th (40.48), Neil Holdsworth 54th (42.57) and Richard Gott 71st (48.01).

Knavesmire's team also finished second in the Windmill Whizz 10K at Ogden Water (Halifax). Strange again led them home in 11th (43.13), ahead of Barry Atkinson 17th 43.43, Steve Boynton 52nd 46.38 and Neil Holdsworth 101st 51.01 in a race taking in the Second Yorkshire Veterans grand prix event.

The Lad's Leap fell race at Crowden provided a more extreme challenge with 1,700 feet of accent in just 5.5 miles. Knavesmire were represented by Andy Bissell 71st (53.45) and Barry Atkinson 153rd (59.12).

Completing the 15-mile off road 'To Ell and back' challenge were Harriers Peter Gray, Peter Alston, Phil Duck, Carmel Parker, David Berry, Kate Wiggins, Roy Halpin and Amy-Jane Beer.

The next Yorkshire Veterans grand prix is at Halifax on April 20.
