ADZE Gallery complements the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham exhibition at York Art Gallery with a new show by fellow St Ives artist Sandra Blow.
In Celebrating St Ives, Adze displays a vibrant series of limited-edition screenprints by an artist who has played a leading role in post-war abstract art.
Born in 1925, Blow became a regular visitor to St Ives and Cornwall in 1957-58, working with Roger Hilton and forging links with Patrick Heron, Terry Frost and Bryan Winter. During the 1960s, she taught painting at the Royal College of Art, and notable among her students was David Hockney.
Now in her late 70s, she works from her studio in St Ives. The Cornish town continues to be a source of inspiration for Blow, whose chief artistic concerns are space, matter and movement: central themes to the series of screenprints on sale at Adze at £650 to £800.
Celebrating St Ives is on show at Adze Gallery, in Gillygate, York, until May 10.
