THE Grand National is the toughest test for any jockey. No one can doubt the courage of those who line up at the start of the Aintree course tomorrow.
In Tommy Elder's day it was tougher still. The fences were higher, the water jumps wider. And he managed to finish as the runner-up on two separate occasions, a terrific achievement.
The memories will come flooding back for 93-year-old Little Tommy tomorrow. He will be present in spirit if not in person.
