DR Simon Ward, you claim that you have this right to free speech as this is a free country (Letters, March 27) but think of the people in Iraq who have no say whatsoever.
Can you not see that one of the aims of this conflict is to give Iraq a democracy?
Think of a new Iraq, where people are not threatened with their life for having an opinion. A place where the people have some sort of influence on policy-making and where they are not afraid to have a life.
This is what our troops are dying for - trying to give citizens a good life. Going into the military myself, I only hope that people would give me the support that our troops are asking for now.
Mike Holden,
Longcroft,
York.
