TWO wins, including one against nearest rivals Strensall 'A', have seen York RI 'A' finish the Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League season in third place in division one.

Doug Bartle and Vic Smith both scored three wins for RI in the 7-3 win over Strensall, who finish in fourth place.

Smith played what might be his last league match in York when helping RI 'A' beat the RI 'B' team 6-4. Smith and his family are moving to live in Spain later this year.

Richard Crowther scored three wins for RI 'B', who introduced their 13th player of the season into their side.

Sessions, who had already retained the championship, finished the campaign with a 7-3 win over Coneysthorpe 'A'.

Poppleton 'B' have finished bottom despite beating University 7-3. Marcus Seidel won three for the University. Richard Moo won three for Poppleton 'A' but they lost 6-4 to Strensall 'A'.

Mark Blackburn's three wins were not enough to prevent York RI 'C' losing 6-4 to Nestle Rowntree 'A', whose Nigel Reeson and Jill Schofield both scored two wins.

Top-of-the-table Groves Associates 'B' and runners-up Sessions 'B' will be promoted from division two.

Groves lost their final match 7-3 to Bootham Conservative Club 'B', Richard Ingleby winning three. Terry Nicholson's three wins helped Sessions 'B' beat Groves Associates 'C' 7-3.

Northern Electric, foot of the table, failed to make it three wins in a row, losing 8-2 to Nestle Rowntree 'B', whose Dave Simpson won three.

The match between division three champions Bootham Conser-vative Club 'C' and second-placed Coneysthorpe 'B' was postponed because of the death of Coneysthorpe club founder Terry Adams. Coneysthorpe have the same number of points as third-placed York RI 'F', who have completed their fixtures.

John Foxton and Malcolm Haswell both scored three wins as Coneys-thorpe 'B' beat Strensall 'C' 9-1.
