VOLUNTEER moved to the top of York John Smith's Sunday Morning League division one with a 8-2 win over Acomb WMC, though they didn't have it all their own way.

Kidds twice equalised for Acomb before and after the break but then they crumbled as Bartlett hit four and O'Riley two. Rayner and Knaggs had got Volunteer's first two.

Marcia kept in touch with a 3-0 win over Pocklington courtesy of goals from Young, O'Brien and Fitzmaurice. Pack of Cards held onto their hopes of avoiding the drop with a 4-3 win over New Earswick with Nelson scoring two, Phil Hart netting twice for Earswick.

Heslington took over as leaders of division five for the first time with a 3-2 win at bottom club Burton Stone. A Dale Phillips header opened the scoring for Burton Stone only for Tattersall to level before the break from the spot. Surgenor and Lloyd-Jones then both scored on the break to give the visitors a 3-1 lead. Stone 'keeper Mark Phillips pulled one back from the spot but despite constant pressure Heslington held out.

Mackay scored two as Hambleton kept their hopes alive with a 4-2 win at Northern Wall.

Heworth took a first-half lead through Slater, but had to be content with a point as Hamblin equalised for Barlby in the second period.

Kings Arms got back on track with a 1-0 win at Bootham Tavern and Enterprise beat The Plough 3-1.

Gipsy Moth moved into second with a 3-0 win over Cross Keys courtesy of goals from Oxtoby, Morris and Ratcliffe.

Goals from Sebine, Zealand, Gibson and an own-goal saw Bay Horse (Tadcaster) home 4-1 at Pocklington Rangers, while a single strike from Shooter was enough to give Hazelwoods victory over Edinburgh Arms and Kingsway Riders came from two down to win 3-2 at Pickering LB.
