TWINS and triplets will be at the focus of a special event in York tomorrow.

Health visitors from the Selby and York Primary Care Trust (PCT), together with partner organisations will be on hand to provide information at a multiple birth information day.

The event, at the entrance of Asda Supermarket, Monks Cross, between 11am and 3pm, is one of two, with the other due to take place next month at York Hospital.

As well as the health visitors, during the day there will be representatives available from School Health, York Twins Club, and Future Prospects, together with information from other services such as Sure Start, Home Start, TAMBA, and the Speech and Language Therapy Service.

Selby and York PCT health visitor Lorraine Kerr, one of the organisers, said: "Discovering you are expecting more than one baby can be a shock to the whole family. We hope these events will show people that help and support is available in the community." Michaela Dobson, from York, mother of Bethany and James aged 20 months, said: "It was a shock for all the family when I found out I was expecting twins, but being able to know where to find support has made a big difference, especially being able to talk to other mothers who have experienced the same as you."

The second information day will be held on a date to be fixed in May at the Child Development Centre at York Hospital.
