THE final of the York John Smith's Ladies League individual competition tonight at Clarence WMC should be a cracker.

Tracey Farmeary (Cue Ball) makes another title bid after an exciting 2-1 semi-final win over Michelle Britton (Palace).

Farmeary pocketed the first in just 17 darts, 121,140,100 included, while Britton banged 140,120 to level in 24. The decider was nip and tuck, each needing a double after 18 darts.

Farmeary's foe is Leeman's young star Toni Smallwood who took the opener in 23 and clinched the match when Independent's Sandra Bruce wobbled.

Smallwood, partnering her mother Jean, narrowly missed out on a further final appearance when Britton-Karen Richardson turned the screws in the pairs' semi-final.

Britton-Richardson's final opponents are Cygnet duo Anne Bass-Dawn Exton, whose consistent forays to the treble ousted colleagues Angela Powell-Wendy Smith.

However, Smallwood did make it to the Elsie Bell Memorial Trophy drawn pairs play-off, with Carole Pipes, who denied Julie Ashton-Linda Embleton.

They meet Carole Layne-Jan Wilberham, who were narrow 2-1 victors over Dot Dykes-Sharon Rishworth.

Palace's Roz Kerr-Sue Lowery, who beat Margaret Bell-Chrissy Noble (Dringhouses), will need to beef up their finishing skills if they are to pick up the Captain-Vice Captain Cup.

They take on Bass-Exton, Exton throwing four tons to ease to a 2-0 victory over Slipper's Doreen Johnstone-Anita Adams.

Division one champions Crystal Palace are assured the triples trophy. They will collect it with either Kerr, Britton and Julie Coyle or Layne, Lowery and Richardson.

A superb York John Smith's Mixed League duel between Martyn Turner (180) and Barry Noble saw Noble pinch it in 17 darts.

Turner's Leeman 'A' colleagues, Kelly Lofthouse, gamed on bullseye and Phil Smith checked 120 but, Noble again appeared to partner his wife, Chrissy, and take the decider for Slipper 'B'.

Colin Rowntree showed with 20 darts as Cygnet 'B' beat Huntington 7-2, while Cygnet 'A's 6-3 win over Cue Ball included 21 darts from Dave Gibbons.

Cygnet 'C' team's John Miller included a 180 score but lost to high-scoring throughout by Chris Bullen (Victoria Vaults) which realised 20 darts. However, Cygnet won 5-4 with Tony Noble making a fine 124 finish.

Jean-Dean Smallwood were on hand to get Leeman 'B' the last game winner at Slipper 'A'.

Travelling just around the corner to Crescent WMC for their York White Rose Ladies League division did not aid New York.

Hopes were high when Judy Hudson, Liz Greaves, Mandy Collingwood and Rose Grimes pulled off the team win, but Crescent coolly collected the next six, Milly Mountain closing the score with a splendid 22-darter.

Karen Reasbeck finished Fulfordgate's 5-2 victory at Fulford Conservatives with 24 darts, while Jill Clapham and Maggie Adamson played well as Coach, Tadcaster, strode to a 5-2 win over Golden Slipper.

In division two, Pat Robertson shot 23 darts but saw her Tramways side outplayed at Collingwood, whose 5-2 win was sealed by Jo Palmer.

Wendy Rhea included two tons and Jan Smith secured the decider for Six Bells at Crystal Palace, while the team and two pair wins should have been good enough for Tap but Katie Reynolds, Val Morley, Hilary Geldard then Jo Piercy landed the late games to give Lord Nelson an exciting win.

New Earswick were 3-1 up in division three against Acomb Sports but Anna then Kath Cooper equalised and Diane Sanderson bagged the decider.

Sally Hankinson settled Lord Nelson 'B' team's win over Bowling Club.
