THIS is the face of convicted killer Claire McDermott, who is still on the run from Askham Grange Prison near York.

McDermott, 28, who is also known as Claire Weston, walked out of the prison on April 14 and is still at large.

North Yorkshire Police are continuing to question friends, relatives and associates of McDermott, who was given a life sentence in 1995 for stabbing mother-of-one Lisa Morris at the victim's Leicester home.

McDermott has been working and studying in York in preparation for her early release next year.

Today, police revealed that a Cambridgeshire woman was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting McDermott's escape, but was later released without charge.

Detective Sergeant Jon Reed said the woman was arrested on April 17 after her house was searched.

He said: "We asked Cambridgeshire Police to search an address in their force area. As a result of that search the wanted person was not found but they felt there was enough to arrest this lady for aiding and abetting. She was later released without charge."

Det Sgt Reed said that uniformed officers in York were leading the hunt for McDermott.

He said: "They are going through her lists of friends, relatives, associates and making inquiries, searching addresses throughout the country. We are looking at every angle.

"There is nothing to suggest she's here (in North Yorkshire)."
