LORD Collingwood's Steve Wragg, favourite for the Marston Moor Villages Doubles-Board League individual title, lived it to that billing.

But despite his season of outstanding consistent scoring and deadly finishing it was not all one way traffic.

Alice Hawthorn's Johnny O'Mara narrowly missed a crucial 76-finish which let Wragg in to slickly steal the opener with the same 76-finish for 21 darts.

A couple of out-of-board shots by O'Mara allowed Wragg a 2-0 lead, which made the next a decider for O'Mara. Again non-scoring darts put him on the back foot. Wragg meanwhile saw his opportunity, mercilessly banged a brace of tons, and closed the championship with 24 darts.

Consecutive tons then an 81-finish for 24 darts gave Wragg the first semi-final game over Tankard's Nigel Stephenson who produced faultless second-game scoring, but Wragg pinched it with the throw advantage.

O'Mara's semi-final progress was at the expense of his Alice Hawthorn colleague, Simon Jackson, last year's champion.

An 80-finish gave O'Mara the first. He didn't come up with the tons as did Jackson, but O'Mara found the all-important darts to game 2-1.

Royal Oak's Gary Stead-Andy Hill are the pair competition champions after beating Wragg and Nick Brown. The final was nip and tuck, but the Tadcaster duo always had the edge and finalised a fine 3-0 victory with a very respectable 24 per dart average.

The Collingwood couple won their semi-final 2-0. Brown bolted the door on both encounters, when Tankard's John Collins-Alan Whitehead failed to consolidate great scoring down to the double.

Stead-Hill took out another Tankard pair, Steve Green-Mark Woodward, 2-0.

Acomb Sports have a one-point lead in York Unique-Phoenix League division one as a result of a 5-2 win over Shepherd which included 14 darts from Stuart Morton.

Martin Cooper (20) and Mike Harris (21) provided solid backing, while Mark Jones made an excellent 18-dart reply.

Cygnet 'A' had 19 from Dave Mason and a Jack White 119 finish, but Sun (Acomb) saw them off 5-2. Chris Thompson (15,21) and Tony Cooper (20) were the mainstays.

Ged McMahon included 180 as Rose and Crown went 3-0 up. Clifton hit back to win 4-3. Martyn Turner shot 21 then 18 darts and Graham Sanderson threw 20.

Stuart Jackson played well for Boot and Shoe, but Chris Hall turned the match Alice Hawthorn's way with a splendid 17 darts, while Mark Hartley and Colin Rowntree shone as Phoenix chalked up the first five against Holgate.

Blacksmith's came from behind with Lee Mason starring in 21 then 118-finish for 18 darts and Tony Brown tagged on 20 to beat Sun (Marston), while Mitre's Wendy Smith singled out a bullseye to finish but Lord Nelson took the 5-2 victory.
