We write regarding the accident at Heworth roundabout, and without knowing the exact cause ('York student nurse saves cyclist's life', May 5).
Many people avoid the roundabout because of the almost blind spot from the Malton Road where traffic suddenly appears without warning.
When the council asked for opinions when the roundabout was proposed we asked for a mirror to be placed at the corner across the road on the left of the florist's shop. This would enable cyclists and drivers to check for safety when leaving Stockton Lane, either right or straight on. There has been no response.
Why not?
Surely there's a council-controlled area where the mirror could be placed. How many more accidents have to happen before action on safety is set up?
Congratulations to the trainee nurse for her prompt action.
