Your review of The Damned (Doing their Damned-est, April 26) at the Barbican fell woefully short of a fair and unbiased concert review.
Charles Hutchinson spent more time writing about what people were wearing than the quality of the concert.
There was no mention of the appalling sound on the night. This was not helped by the unfortunate fact that the Damned were late getting there because of traffic problems and the support band had approximately four minutes to soundcheck.
The review also completely failed to mention the support band, The Surf Sluts. Not only are they a York band (which deserves a mention in its own right) but they brought a substantial percentage of the crowd with them.
This was shown by how many people left the auditorium after their performance. Not only did they put up a good show in adverse circumstances, they entertained the crowd greatly. This was clearly lost on Mr Hutchinson.
The only way the Evening Press can give a fair review of a concert is to do it warts and all and let the people decide.
