MOVING house proved lucky for a North Yorkshire chef, who will be heading to Hollywood to mingle with the stars after winning an Evening Press competition.

Karl Wormley, who works at the Loftsome Bridge Coaching House, near Howden, bought the Evening Press religiously when he was moving from York to his new home in Saunters Way, Riccall.

While he was scouring the classifieds ads for furniture, he decided to try his luck and enter the Evening Press's WYLAP reader competition.

Karl, 39, who lives with his girlfriend Paula Brooks, said winning the trip to California was a dream come true. The couple plan to take the prize holiday, which includes time in Hollywood and Las Vegas, in November.

He said: "We are going to Egypt with my father for two weeks on Monday and we thought it would be the last holiday we would have for a long time. I'm turning 40 in August and now I have two reasons to celebrate."

Mr Wormley was one of hundreds of readers who collected tokens from the Evening Press and then answered the question: What does WYLAP mean?

The answer, as Karl realised, was: Would You Like A Paper?

The competition also involved prizes for retailers who succeeded in pushing up their sales of the Evening Press.
