After winning their derby match with Bubwith, Hemingbrough have taken over the leadership of Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior League division three.

They have one more victory than former leaders Heslington, who are now on level points.

Bubwith posted a respectable total of 182-8 through Neil Readman (29), Wesley Pears (36) and Mike Spragg (31) as Damian Sharp took 3-41, but this proved totally inadequate when Maqsood Akbar played another stunning innings.

The Pakistani star raced to an unbeaten 110 as he recorded his fifth century in eight innings and, in doing so, passed the 700 run mark in his bid to break the current top run aggregate of 1,668 made in 1996 by Collis King.

Akbar seems certain to beat the record of six centuries in a season currently held jointly by Collis King and current Pakistan internation star Mohammed Hafeez.

With Dave Kerr adding 34, Hemingbrough sailed to their target for the loss of four wickets.

Heslington relinquished pole position when they fell agonisingly short of victory at Clifton Alliance and had to be contented with a draw.

Simon Corley made 59 and Paul Walton 75 in a 104-run stand for the Alliance to build on Paul Atkinson's 34.

Nick James took 4-35 as Clifton reached 209-8.

Jason Gatus led the response with 63, while support was proffered by Ryan Elliott (39) and Rob Cockerill (25), but their combined efforts could only take their side to 206-6.

Yapham's batsmen fared poorly at new Earswick where home bowler Ian Helmsley's 5-26 had them crawling to 109-9.

The more successful batsmen were barry Pearson (34) and Trevor Walker (35). Nigel West, with 5-61, and Walker (3-50) made valiant efforts to retrieve the situation, but James Routledge's unbeaten 30 enabled Earswick to snatch victory by two wickets.

Woodhouse Grange's batsman Dave Langton suffered personal disappointment when he was dismissed for 99.

However, Stuart Craven made 95 not out and their two big knocks saw Grange to 239-2 against Heworth.

Heworth's batsmen also found the the Grange strip to their liking and made a good attempt at winning.

Nick Brooke made 79, Joe Johnson 77 and Jonathan Draper 33 not out, but Dave Ezard's 3-31 kept Grange in control as the game ended in a draw at 209-4.
