YORK'S second visit of the weekend to Rotherham found the opposition in sterner mode, but the result was the same with York enjoying an overwhelming nine-wicket victory.

Rotherham had been beaten by 130 runs in the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier League on Saturday.

In the League Cup tie yesterday they opted to bat, probably out of self preservation, and lost Ossie Jawid in the first over to a brilliant stumping by Nigel Durham off Greg How.

This brought Sol Choudry to the crease and he proved to be most adhesive. He scored 88 runs in his 47 overs of occupation before being run out by a fine throw from the boundary by Jeetan Patel.

The rest of the home batters found the York bowling difficult to put away and Rob Flack and Dan Broadbent enjoyed most success with two wickets each.

In reply, York's openers, Steve Piercy and Simon Mason put the result beyond doubt with a century partnership before Piercy departed for 41. Mason and Will Warne closed in on victory in only 26 overs.

York now play Harrogate at St George's Road on a date to be confirmed.
