DESPITE Dunnington having the only rain-affected match in the whole league, they remain leaders of division one of the Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League by four points.

Poppleton dropped back after losing to Wheldrake, whose Jamie Moore and David McDermott were unbeaten on 22 games.

Bubwith moved off the bottom with a 70-38 win against Rowntree Park.

York went top of division two after their 73-35 win over Copmanthorpe earned them seven points out of the last eight. John Logan and Peter Sutherland were the stars with 29 games.

Dunnington II faded with only one point against Appleton Roebuck, whose team included three Zieglers. Will Ziegler, playing alongside Doug Bradley, were their top-scorers on 22 games, but Anthony Downing with Chris Burgess scored 25 games with a ten in the last set to secure the draw.

Poppleton II moved top in division three by beating Castlegarth II 60-48. Tom Cantrell and Rab McEwan led the way with 24 games, while David Corryn and Roger Wright replied with 19 games for Castlegarth. Bishopthorpe faded in the final rubber to lose 63-45 to Wigginton II.

Sherburn's runaway lead in division four was enhanced by their 65-43 win at Wilberfoss, thanks largely to a 25-game haul from Neil Huggins and Steve Caslake.

Rufforth moved into third with a 62-43 win at Riccall II where David Laws and Andy Ivel won 27 games. Heworth kept their hopes alive by beating Copmanthorpe II 58-50 (Simon and Adam Gray 22).

Wheldrake II stayed top of division five. Dave Fenton and Bryn Jones picked up 27 games of their 62 against Cliffe, for whom John Leetham and Dave Hall scored 20 games.

Although Sheriff Hutton's Kevin Fairclough and Ed Marsden scored 22 games, Strensall II gave David Coverdale and Matt Brown (23) better support to win 61-47.

Peter Rillings and Richard Kettlewell racked up 26 games of Sutton II's 64 against Fulford to keep them two points behind Wheldrake.

In division six, Boston Spa II went top after beating Next Generation 61-47. Richard Hollins and Andrew Riley led the way with 24 games for Boston.

Civil Service II dropped back in the title race managing only a draw against Bishopthorpe II. Captain Charlie Dixon and Steve Gagan scored 24 games for Service.
