DRIVERS are being urged to show caution at a road accident blackspot after a young woman died in a collision with an articulated lorry.

Nadine Tate, 21, was travelling westward along the A163 Barlby to Market Weighton road when her white Fiat Punto collided with a lorry heading in the opposite direction at about 10.20am yesterday.

Emergency services were at the scene within ten minutes, but Miss Tate was found to have died from the impact. Her family in North Duffield were informed shortly afterwards.

The crash, at a bend by the 66 service station, near Bubwith, is the latest in a string of incidents at what is being dubbed an "accident blackspot".

A spokesman for Selby fire station said: "This piece of road seems to be an accident blackspot. People need to drive to the speed limit and the conditions.

"We would like to remind all motorists that it is not just through the winter that they need to be careful. When we have a dry spell followed by lots of rain the roads become very greasy. We are not saying that this was the cause of the accident, but please be careful. If in doubt, slow down."

The road was reopened at 3.15pm yesterday. Diversions had been in place earlier in the day at the A19 junction with the A163 and at the Skipwith Road junction with the A163.

An inquest into Miss Tate's death was due to be opened and adjourned today.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or saw the Fiat Punto beforehand is asked to phone the police on 01609 783131.
