YORK'S run of success continued when they progressed to the semi-final of the Yorkshire ECB Premier League Cup with a crushing 109 runs victory against Harrogate at St George's Road.

York are now due to play Sheffield Collegiate at Abbeydale in the semi-final on August 10.

York chose to bat but lost wickets quickly to Chris Guest and Dave Pennett, but Simon Mason was in such quality form that it seemed to matter little.

He stroked fours to all parts to earn himself ten boundaries and Mike Davies cracked 16 in four shots, but, to his manifest disappointment, Mason was adjudged lbw and at 101-5.

York needed to regroup and Dan Broadbent was just the man for the job as he pulled the innings round with a patient knock of 24 from 67 balls over 91 minutes.

Tom Pringle's 25 off 56 balls was the pick of the latter order so that, through sensible batting, York had worked up a defendable total of 199 in their 50 overs.

Harrogate started at pace with 40 off eight overs with former Yorkshire colt, John Inglis showing good form, but York's spinmasters gradually took control.

Kiwi Jeetan Patel was first and his ten overs cost only ten runs. Steve Piercy sneaked in for a rare bowl and took two wickets for only 24 runs in his ten.

Saturday's hero, Broadbent and apprentice Tom Pringle were hardly needed, but both made their presence felt by claiming four wickets between them for only nine runs.

York had earned themselves extra bar time by winning with 14 overs to spare and boosted their confidence for what is bound to be a tough month ahead.
