Cawood and Nestl Rowntree have taken the two promotion places in division nine of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Nestl will be promoted for the second season running after their 84-24 win against Selby, for whom Kerry Rafton and Matt Lowery won 33 games.

Cawood ensured promotion for themselves and Nestl Rowntree with a 58-50 win against third-placed Fulford, led by top scorers Jane Hill and John Cattanach.

Nestl and Cawood meet tonight with Cawood only needing one point from their last two matches to clinch the title.

York need only one more point to take the division one crown after winning 67-41 at Fulford, with Pete Goodall and Karen Retief making a winning debut.

Poppleton second team had a 57-51 win against Dunnington with all couples winning 19 games to ensure the relegation battle goes to the final week after Tadcaster lost to Poppleton and Wigginton went down to Civil Service.

York were promoted from division two after wins against Sutton-on-Derwent, led by Kathryn Place and Angus Smith, and at Bubwith, where they reached the 55 games required before rain stopped play.

Rowntree Park ended Stillington's hopes of promotion after their 60-48 win to move out of the relegation area.

Wheldrake continued their rise after ensuring promotion from division three with wins at Sherburn, led by Helen Roe and Mark Bland, and then at promotion rivals York, where Lynette Duggleby and Dave Parrish were unbeaten.

Castlegarth hold the key to the second spot as they have both Wheldrake and York to play. Sherburn ensured safety with a 60-48 win at York fourth team.

Dunnington are fighting to avoid the drop after going down 74-34 to Bishopthorpe.

Sutton-on-Derwent will play Wistow next week to decide the division six title after both teams won their latest games to take the two promotion places.

Sutton have gained promotion for the fourth successive year after beating rivals Civil Service, led by unbeaten Sally Wildsmith and Dave Nowell.

Wistow stay top after winning at Fulford. Janet and Steve Falkingham matched Jill Marsden and Neil Richardson's scores for Wistow.

Castlegarth need one more point in division seven to gain promotion after beating relegated Strensall, headed by Angie Bell and Doug Crawford.

However, they faltered against York, who themselves lost to Appleton Roebuck.

Escrick won division ten with wins at Appleton Roebuck and Wilberfoss, thanks to Denise Neary and Steve Smowton winning 31 games.

Appleton Roebuck will join Escrick after winning at Civil Service, Ann Musgrove and Andrew Howatt, plus Chris Lyons and Joe Carter winning 23 games.

Graham Wykes Handicap semi-finals: Tadcaster 'A' v Dunnington 'A'; Dunnington 'B' v Stillington. Matches to be played by August 23.
