THE food served up to children on a summer day out is generally "old junk", according to a new report.

Few parents would disagree. Children's menus are filled with fat, salt and sugar. Just look at that favourite delicacy of cafs everywhere: deep fried reconstituted meat squashed into unnatural shapes (aka chicken nuggets).

It is about time these caterers considered offering more healthy options for children, as they do for grown-ups. After all, they need the nutrition to fuel a long day in front of the Playstation.
