WHELDRAKE have won the division three title in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League after beating promotion rivals Castlegarth.

Dave Parrish and Lynette Duggleby won 25 games, matched by Dave McDermott and Helen Roe, with solid support from Mark Bland and Helen Hadfield.

Mike Park and Helen Jackson ensured Castlegarth bounced back with a win against relegated Tollerton. York stayed in the promotion hunt also winning against Tollerton and their match tonight against Castlegarth will decide the second promotion place.

The second relegation place is between York fourths and Dunnington, who also meet tonight with both teams having a re-arranged match to play.

Unbeaten York need only one more point from the remaining two matches to take the division two title after a big win against Stillington with Angus Smith and Kathryn Place winning 29 games, just outscoring Vincent Kiel and Karen Retief.

Fulford secured the second promotion spot with wins against Bubwith and at Dunnington with Richard and Di Ekers top-scoring in both wins.

Mark Tebbutt and Chris Oldfield ensured Wilberfoss are still in the promotion scene in division four after their win against relegated Strensall. Tebbutt and Oldfield, together with John Heads and Aileen Hunt, both won 28 games.

Leaders Riccall went down to Poppleton but Selby and Copmanthorpe hold the key to promotion with a number of re-arranged matches still to play.

Sutton-on-Derwent and Wistow will play the probably title decider for the division six title tonight after both teams won last week.

Sutton beat third-placed Cawood and Wistow defeated Civil Service. This week's matches will also decide relegation which is being fought out by five teams.

Castlegarth and Appleton Roebuck have taken the two promotion spots in division seven without hitting a ball after York lost their outside hopes after a competitive draw against New Earswick.

Relegation in the division has also been resolved with Strensall going down to Rowntree Park for whom Bob Shread and Sandra Robinson amassed 31 games. New Earswick sealed the demise of Bishopthorpe with a big win led by Keith Pearson and Sandra Burley's 32 games.

Cawood have captured the division nine title with Richard and Carolynne Taylor winning 27 games for Cawood in their win against Stillington, who were left with a relegation fight on their hands after they also went down to Selby.

Selby travel to Wistow tonight in the outstanding relegation match, after Wistow lost by the narrowest of margins in Fulford.

Next Generation have taken the division eleven title with a win at Sutton-on-Derwent. The second place is wide open between Heworth and Stamford Bridge after Heworth lost at New Earswick, whose Chris Deadman and Lisa Turner remained unbeaten. Heworth have the harder task having still to play Next Generation.
