PROMOTION-chasing Selby lI gave a glimmer of hope to the following pack by contriving to lose to fourth-placed Hemingbrough in division six.

Allan Hullah struck a valuable 65, but Malc Walker's 5-65 helped ensure that Selby could put up a target of only 139 for the loss of seven wickets.

Richard Sherwood almost managed to salvage the game for Selby, taking 6-51, but with three scores in the thirties coming from Phillip Priestley (36), Mike Hill (37) and Walker (32 no), Hemingbrough just managed to squeeze past

with one wicket in hand.

Bolton Percy were unable to capitalise on Selby's defeat when they came up against leaders York III.

Despite the absence of York's leading wicket-takers, Simon Hall and Graham Mackfall, Bolton slumped to 83 all out as Ben Hough spun his way to 4-18. At the other end, Tony Hall took 3-25.

Bolton had a few brief moments of hope as York were then reduced to 24-3 before Rob Lancaster (44no) and

Hough (21no) were each dropped on their way to reaching their target in the 19th over.

Cawood crashed to defeat at Wilberfoss, as John Crawford made 54no in the Foss reply, made without loss, of 72 to Cawood's first innings score of 71 all out.

The two sides above bottom-placed Cawood, Civil Service and Thorp Arch, met in one of the few remaining fixtures that are likely to be staged at Service's Boroughbridge Road ground and which the club is due to vacate at the end of the season.

TABS were unable to reach even the modest target of 121

which they had been set. Paul Brereton's 37 and Stuart Masheder's bowling return of 3-37 were the principle noteworthy features of the first innings, while a six-wicket haul for Tony Edwards then made life extremely difficult for the visitors. Only Christian Foster (33) showed some resistance in the TABS response which fell 20 runs short with the last two batsmen at the crease.
