I write in response to your article 'Visitors speak out on Minster charges', (Evening Press, August 5).

I note that none of these complainers are locals.

If these people are so keen to see inside the Minster for free, why can't they come on a Sunday to the service, or for Evensong, then they could attend the service and not have to pay.

I really cannot see just what these people are moaning about.

These people are often more than happy to pay to go into the Viking Centre, or the Castle Museum.

Minsters are just the same as castles and stately homes. If the public want them preserved then their upkeep must be paid for with entrance fees.

The moaning public must bear in mind that had they been a bit more eager to put their hands in their pockets and pay the voluntary £2.50 that was asked for, then none of this would have happened.

They have only themselves to blame.
