A STUNNING selection of replica sports cars was on show in Harrogate this weekend at the Great Northern Kit & Car Builder Show 2003.

Local exhibitors brought along all manner of dream cars from top-of-the-range speed demons to distinguished classics, and even miniature cars for children.

This new event, at the Yorkshire Event Centre showground was organised by John Cooke, of European Promotions, who stages 25 other kit car shows.

John said: "We hope it will become the biggest kit car show in the North of England and be as popular as the shows we run in the South-East and South-West."

More than 30 manufacturers as well as 500 cars from clubs and individuals were taking part in the show.

Among the exhibitors are Don Burt and Martin Griffin, of YKC Sports Cars at Elvington, near York, who will be showing their sleek F27 KR, which is fitted with a two-litre Ford Zetec engine, pushing out 182bhp.

Don and Martin reckon that an enthusiast could build one of their kits into a complete car for under £6,000 in about 120 hours.

The show will be open on Sunday between 10am and 5pm. Admission is £8 for adults, £2 for children under-12.
