YORK City Knights chief executive Steve Ferres today praised the fans for playing their part in the Knights' victory over Chorley yesterday.

The club had called on the supporters to cheer the team on to a shock success against the National League Two leaders at Huntington Stadium, and Ferres said they were delighted with the vociferous backing.

"They did exactly what we asked of them and more," he told the Evening Press.

"The support was 100 per cent. It was fantastic. They got behind the team from start to finish and enjoyed a tremendous game."

Knights player-assistant coach Graeme Hallas concurred. "We gave the fans plenty to cheer about and they gave us a great lift," he said. "The crowd support this year has been superb and long may it continue."

Once again the crowd at Huntington Stadium was the biggest in the division and was only bettered by three division one attendances.
