MUCH-CHANGED Selby were blown apart by visitors hosts Wheatley Hills who opened the Yorkshire One term with a 30-12 win.

Indeed the game was effectively over after 35 minutes when Wheatley Hills surged into a 23-0 lead.

Two Hanson penalties were followed by an opening try from number 8 Elliott, who charged down a Mathew Smith clearance kick from an under-pressure Selby set scrum.

Hanson failed with the conversion but made amends soon after when he notched Hills' second try after a good three quarter move.

Selby flanker Duncan Phillips was yellow carded in the 32nd minute and Wheatley took advantage, flanker Stollery forcing his way over for a try converted by Hanson for that commanding half-time lead.

The introduction of Tom Bayston at prop for John Kaye stabilised the home scrum and Selby at last got onto the scoreboard when number 8 Rob Taylor forced his way over. Debutant Oliver Mantley kicked the conversion.

But Wheatley's Andrew Pinno scored under the posts, Hanson adding the extras.

In the 77th minute Selby scored their second try when hooker Shane Sellers burrowed his way.

Big improvements are necessary if Selby are to challenge for a top position.
