Henry Cecil may be without a runner in Saturday's St Leger, but the Warren Place trainer can win Wednesday's 'fillies' St Leger on the opening day of the four-day Doncaster Festival.

Cecil saddles Singleton in the ACMC Park Hill Stakes and I fancy Richard Quinn's mount to return to winning form, following her creditable third-placed effort in the Galtres Stakes on Knavesmire last month.

On that occasion Singleton finished third to Mezzo Soprano, beaten less than two lengths over a mile and a half.

Tomorrow's step up to one and threequarter miles - the St Leger distance - will aid Singleton, who was having her first run for two months at York. She should take all the beating.

The £50,000 Tote Trifecta Portland Handicap brings together a formidable bunch of sprinters and, in a devillishly difficult race to solve, I think that Corridor Creeper will triumph.

Milton Bradley's charge, as consistent as they come, was hardly winning out of turn when scoring at Epsom two weeks ago.

That a victory came on the back of some sterling efforts in defeat. Now that he has got his head in front, he can make a bold bid to complete a double in a race which includes last year's winner, the Kevin Ryan-trained Halmahera.

A jackpot prize will be up for grabs in the £200,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes, a race confined to two-year-olds which were bought at last year's corresponding St Leger yearling sales.

Tim Easterby's Somnus won last 12 months ago. This time it could be the turn of David Barron, another North Yorkshire trainer, who relies on Axis, the mount of Dean Mernagh.

Barron, who is enjoying a bumper campaign, especially with his two-year-olds, placed Axis to win at Redcar. The youngster then failed by only half a length to get the better of Blue Tomato in a hot nursery race at York's Ebor meeting.

Axis has something to find on figures to win this contest, but he is a speedy and progressive type and he just might be the one to pop-up in a competitive race. He is sportingly napped to win the bumper prize.

In the Carrie Red Fillies' Nursery, over six and a half furlongs, which starts the action at Doncaster tomorrow, Barron and Mernagh have another good chance with Dispol Katie.

This speedy juvenile is already twice a winner this season and although the handicapper may now have her measure, she should make a bold bid in a race where any number of the runners have question marks over them.

Mukafeh, who created a good impression on his debut at Newbury, has good prospects of following-up in the McKeever St Lawrence Conditions Stakes. Richard Hills again has the mount on the John Dunlop-trained colt.

Destination Dubai, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and the mount of Frankie Dettori, is a newcomer worth noting in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Maiden Stakes.
