AS warden of York Cemetery, I would like to have my say on Dr Richard Keesing's comments in the Evening Press (Running out of space, August 21), which have resulted in some very upset residents of York writing to complain.
Although Richard's comments may have seemed thoughtless, he has only had the future of myself and my fellow three paid members of staff at heart.
The idea of re-using a plot for burials is not for personal 'financial gain' for Richard or any of the fellow trustees of York Cemetery Trust. It is simply to put a stop to any of our members of staff having to become unemployed - we are all great workers and don't deserve that to happen.
I would like to ask a minority of your readers who seem to be bitter towards York Cemetery to think before making such statements, as it is hurtful when we provide such a good service to York on wages which, believe me, aren't fantastic.
If anyone still has comments they would like to make, letters can be sent directly to me or visitors can come and see me in the cemetery gatehouse during office hours.
Vanessa Temple,
The Warden,
York Cemetery Trust,
The Gatehouse,
Cemetery Road, York.
