I WISH to correct the false statement that Easingwold Town Council is aligned with the misguided view of Hambleton District Council (as expressed by Coun GW Ellis) on improved car parking and bus arrangements at Easingwold School ("Car park 'would ruin gateway into town'", September 4).
The two school planning applications were considered by Easingwold Town Council in August and it was agreed that there were no longer grounds to object to the plans. However, the council still wished to see planting to provide additional screening between the cars and the York Road.
It would appear that Hambleton District Council places a higher value on aesthetics than on the safety of our children and is prepared to see congestion at the school entrance increase rather than allow the school to go ahead with a sensible solution that now has the blessing of most local residents.
Coun WB Taylor,
Chairman of governors,
Easingwold School,
Easingwold, York.
