MOTORISTS had a lucky escape after a road accident at a notorious blackspot today.

The crash happened at Golden Hill on the eastbound A64 at 7.55am.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the car had lost control and overturned, coming to rest on its side in a hedge at the side of the road.

"The car was thrown completely on its side, and all crumpled," said eyewitness Sharon Hall.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Malton Hospital by ambulance.

Less than two miles away there was a second accident on the A64 at Whitwell Hill.

An ambulance spokeswoman said a car collided with the back of a small minibus. The female driver of the car was not taken to hospital, and the minibus was not thought to be carrying any passengers.

Two vehicles also collided in Hull Road, near Dunnington. One male was taken by ambulance to York Hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be serious.
