YORK City fans are going to have to cough up more cash to watch their favourites because of the club's financial position.

City today announced increased admission prices in the light of the financial results published last week for the three months to 30 June.

Adult admission prices are to rise by £1 with effect from Saturday's game against Cambridge United. Children and concessions will remain unaffected.

In addition, City have announced that three further games will be designated category 'A' games when adult admission prices will be raised by an additional £1 to cover the cost of increased policing.

The three category 'A' games are Doncaster Rovers, Hull City and Huddersfield Town. The club may also consider re-categorising any further games should additional costs arise.

The increases were approved by both the Club board and the Supporters' Trust board.

The news comes just a week after the football club revealed it had lost more than £300,000 in the three-month period after the fan take-over at Bootham Crescent in March.

It also emerged the club were expecting to pay-out £72,000 to keep former boss Terry Dolan and his assistant, Adie Shaw, on the pay-roll after the duo were made redundant at the end of last season.

When releasing those figures, the club said its finances had "significantly improved" since the middle of the year but admitted it still needed fans to come through the turnstiles.

Explaining the new increases, City finance director Terry Doyle said: "As will be evident to all our supporters, the job of recovering from administration will not be achieved overnight.

"We still have a tough task to ensure income and expenditure are brought into line but are also determined to strike a balance between this and providing the City with a team to be proud of.

"Our league position after the first ten games and particularly the quality of football the team are playing, we believe justifies the decisions taken to date

"We have deliberately not increased prices for children and concessions as we are already one of the most expensive clubs in the division for concessions and we do not want to discourage our future generation of supporters

"We believe City supporters will understand that the cost staging large attendance matches, which require a much higher police presence is unavoidable.

"Police costs alone for our game against Hull City on Boxing Day are anticipated to be in excess of £7,000.

"We as a club are no different in having to face the realities of providing a safe environment in which to watch football for our supporters and again we are confident that our fans will understand why we have taken this position."
