CONTRARY to RA Starks' view that ward committees should be abolished to save money (September 29), I believe it is essential that these representative bodies to which everyone can attend should be retained.
However to save money there are some unrepresentative quangos which are overdue for abolition. These only add to the unnecessary bureaucracy of local government and unlike ward committees are only in some areas.
I refer to the realm of self-satisfied dinosaurs, parish councils.
